HERE WOMAN: Kelsey Miller

When I first began contemplating this project and the desire to showcase women’s everyday lives, their HERE, the first lady who popped into my mind was my sister in law Kelsey Miller.

There were so many personal reasons I wanted to showcase her life but I think a reason we all can relate and aspire to is her dedication to her family and to our way of life. Becoming a mother and having such a seasoned one next to me has been an undeniable blessing.

My goal with this project is to acknowledge those women who find joy, purpose, and drive in their HERE. And through that possibly inspire you to acknowledge those women in your life too.

I asked Kelsey a series of questions involving her HERE and will paraphrase her answers below.

Tell us a little about who you are and what your HERE looks like…”I’m a mom of four and I run a ranch with my husband. My here shifts seasonally as winter brings sports for the kids and coaching for me. Spring is marked by lambing and branding. Then summer, if the water comes, we get to hay and fall brings more branding and back to school”

What is one thing you’ve learned as part of accepting and leaning into your HERE that you hope would help others…”Not growing up in agriculture meant coming into a family dominated by it made me a little uneasy. But deciding one day to have confidence that they would accept me and appreciate my efforts helped me solidify my spot. In motherhood I have learned that you just don’t judge! Because just because your kid hasn’t done it yet doesn't mean they won’t tomorrow!”

How do you take your coffee…” I got sick of bad coffee in town so I bought an espresso machine. I take two shots of espresso, add some water and a scoop of cinnamon cookie protein powder. Top that off with almond milk, ice, and some cinnamon caramel. Chef's Kiss!”

What is one thing you wish people knew or get misunderstood about your HERE…”I feel like sometimes because I don’t do a lot of riding (babies for the past decade) and a lot of my day involves driving the kids to school, sports, etc. people don't see all the work I do on the ranch with my husband. But I think my acceptance came when I realized you can be an essential aspect of the ranch without riding every day.

What is a song that makes you smile…”Beautiful Things Benson Boone”

What is a simple thing you do to change your perspective on your HERE when it feels heavy or overwhelming?...”We’ve been through alot and sometimes I find myself looking back and saying well we have a home so its way better than it used to be! I really try to shift my perspective to how fortunate we are to live where we do and get to live the life we do and we have four healthy kids. That shift really calms my mind.”

What is the best way to end your day…”After the kids go to bed is really me and my husband’s only time, just us two. Lately we have been watching the Cowboy Showdown. And I love to go to bed in a cold bedroom…Cold Bed Hot Husband :)!!”
